Spotlight Showcases Artists’ Ginger Gouveia and Mary Young

YAA Spotlight

Two artists will share the spotlight at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery located at the Nye Beach Turnaround in Newport, Oregon.  The show featuring Ginger Gouveia and Mary Young will open on Nov. 17 and runs through Fri. December 2nd 2011.  The gallery is open from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm daily.

Ginger retired to the Oregon Coast 12 years ago and joined the Yaquina Art Association 3 years ago.  Since then she has been grateful for the opportunity to share her photos with the public.  When asked why she enjoys looking through the lens of her camera she explains that focusing on a subject and creating an image that tells a story and emits an emotion from the viewer brings her great joy.

Ginger has traveled extensively during the last 15 years enjoying cultural exchanges in India, China, Nepal, South Africa, and Latin America.  Sharing those experiences through photography adds even more dimension to her travels.

Mary Young has lived on the Oregon Coast for five years and is still and amazed and inspired by all it’s beauty.  She grew up in Seattle, WA and lived there and in Portland, OR for before moving to Newport, OR. Her obsession with Fused Glass art started over eight years ago with her Dad buying and experimenting with a Kiln at home. For the past five years she has been selling her glass creations and has been a member of the Yaquina Arts Association.

From the first it has been an adventure of discovery and learning the most important fact about glass: the possibilities are endless.Mary and her Dad share a studio and collaborate and inspire each other by trying new techniques and creating new designs. Mary’s style is bright, playful, and whimsical. She loves to create all kinds of little animals, use bold colors, and play with geometric patterns. The wonderful part of Fused Glass is making things that make her happy, and if they make other people happy as well, then that’s just grand.

Under the name Whimsy Art Glass, Mary sells her glass work in the Newport Farmer’s Market, the Lincoln City Farmer’s Market, the Nye Beach Artisan’s Market, and the Lincoln County Fairgrounds Farmers Market. Her artwork can also be found at the Ocean Beaches Gallery in Seal Rock, OR and in her Etsyshop online.
