Yaquina Art Gallery Spotlight features Walt Duval and Andree Devine, nature photographers, from October 14th – 27th, 2023
Walter Duvall and Andree Devine will share a two week spotlight show at Yaquina Art Association Gallery. Both are experienced art photographers who live on the coast.
Andree Devine’s work entitled “Above and Below the Water” reflects her deep love of all things aquatic. As a diver, some of her work is below the surface. Her personal interest and her work have taken her to distant warm seas and reef life with her camera at hand. The amazing beauty of our central coast, along with its wildlife, is also reflected in this show. She says, “Nature and underwater subjects occupy a big space in my heart.” She shares an intimate look at our water filled world.
Walter Duvall continues his love with natural images even after 58 years of capturing forms, textures, colors and shifting light. His work has been published and has won numerous awards. He was inspired by the photography of Ansel Adams as a young man. He has studied with notable experts to deepen his own understanding of the art of photography. “My photography is influenced by three professional photographers” explains Duvall. “First, from Ansel Adams who said, ‘You don’t take a photograph, you make it; David Middleton who taught me, ‘Don’t settle for mediocrity’ and ‘Watch the edges of your image’, lastly Art Wolfe who told me, ‘Don’t take a postcard, look for art in a scene’. These words,” states Duvall, “follow me every time I venture out to record nature.”
While many of his images may be familiar, look closely at the depth and attention to light and detail. He has donated his time and talent to the Alaska Raptor Center, Sitka Conservation Society, Oregon Coast Community Forrest Association and Newport Fishermen’s Wives, to help promote their non-profit images in their various communities.
Both are active members of our Yaquina Art Association Photographers (YAAP) who encourages so many to evolve.
