“I am inspired by the natural beauty of our county, the ocean is rejuvenating! I paint with an impressionistic style and often with an environmental theme. I would like to help educate people about the impact that we have as humans on our coastal areas.”

Yaquina Art Association is very pleased to show a donated collection of Charlie Anderson’s artwork from his estate.
Charlie Anderson was born in St. Paul Minnesota. His Grandfather, Mother and Aunt were artists so he thought he would try painting also. After retiring in 2001 he finally got the chance. He spent many of his vacations on the Oregon coast, so in 2001 he left Colorado and moved to Lincoln City Oregon. He started drawing and watercolor classes in Lincoln City with the Artist Studio Association ASA. After about a year of classes Charlie joined the Yaquina Art Association. There he served as Vice President for 3 years and enjoyed working with the members of the association.
His grandfather taught him some of the basics of photography and black and white developing and then gave him his first camera. His mother was very talented in oil painting and encouraged him through school. His aunt was an artist and to encouraged his watercolor work.
Charlie attended workshops from Harold Walkup, Tony Couch, Dr. John Hewitt, and local artist Arlen Gilliland. He was pleased to be juried in to the Watercolor Society of Oregon (WSO) and was proud to be a part of it.
Charlie said: I believe that most of us have artistic talent that is never given the chance to surface. As a child most of us were encouraged to demonstrate artistic capability throughout our school years. I was encouraged at a young age both in art and music. Only after spending years in school, military and a career in electronics there was finally time pursue painting and photography. Watercolor has been very enjoyable and rewarding. Photography has come in handy to gather material to use in paintings. Too bad it takes some of us so long to find that time to focus on what we love.
