YAA Spotlight

In a two week Spotlight Wall Show from November 9th to November 22nd, the Yaquina Art Association will be featuring the photography of Ted Crego and the artwork of Alice LaFond, Pat Lyles, and Sue Rembolt. The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW Beach Drive. Hours of operation are 11 am to 4 pm every day.

Ted Crego was originally born and raised on a dairy farm in upstate New York. His degree is in Ceramic Engineering from Alfred University. Ted’s professional life was working for companies such as Coors Porcelain Co. and Coast Cast Corporation but mostly with Precision Castparts Corporation in Portland. He retired in 2009 and moved to Newport. He is having fun exploring his hobby of photography with his wife, photographer Kim Cuc Tran. They like taking vacations to places where they enjoy doing photography. Some of the places include Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, Peru, Tibet, Canada and a European river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest. Last year they cruised from Venice to Barcelona seeing 6 different countries. But some of their favorite places to visit are the wonderful National Parks throughout the USA.

Ted’s photo interests are varied, but he enjoys finding images that others may overlook, such as patterns and macro shots. Lately, he has been doing more panoramas and HDR (High DynamicRrange) photos. There is always something new to learn in photography especially when it comes to the myriad of software programs for post processing.

Ted’s photographs have received awards in competitions through the Vietnamese Artistic Photographic Association, Tri-Community Photo Center, Photographic Society of America, Tryon Creek Photo Club, Oregon State Fair Salon of Photography, Nature Photographers of the Pacific North West, Columbia Council of Camera Clubs and the Yaquina Arts Association Photographers.

Ted was a past President of Yaquina Arts Association Photographers. If you are interested in joining a photo clubs to work on your skills, check out the photo club at YAAPhotographers.org.

Alice LaFond is inspired by the beauty of the Central Oregon Coast and is often challenged to capture subjects photographed by her husband, Richard. They have lived near Ona Beach in Seal Rock for over a decade after retiring and building their dream home there. An array of colored pencils stands like a bouquet awaiting Alice as she begins each picture. Sometimes the finished result has the look of a watercolor and other times, the look of a photograph. Alice is a member of the Yaquina Art association, the Yachats Art Guild, and the Lincoln City Cultural Center and has shown her work in all three venues. For many years, Alice has volunteered with the Coastal Arts Guild in staffing the Runyan Gallery and the Upstairs Gallery at the Visual Arts Center in Nye Beach. Alice feels her passion for colored pencil art growing daily.

Pat Lyles grew up in Southern California. She moved to Oregon with her family in 1967. Art has always been part of her life. She called Newport Oregon home 14 years ago as an empty-nester. Being fascinated by a colored pencil exhibit she took lessons. Pat has explored other Medias but continues a love of colored pencil.

Sue Rembolt’s mother was an award winning artist, so you can say she was born into art. Sue was encouraged from the beginning to use her creativity, but did not get serious about art until she went to collage. She studied interior design, drawing, watercolor painting, oil painting, and acrylic painting. Sue also studied costume design and participated in Old Sacramento Living History for 10 years. Sue also has an interest in bead weaving and jewelry design.
