In a two week Pedestal Spotlight Show from June 15th to June 28th, the Yaquina Art Association will be featuring the artwork of A.T. Ronan. The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW Beach Drive. Hours of operation are 11 am to 5 pm every day.
A.T. Ronan calls her 2019 mixed media show “Nearly Natural”. The show features art she has created using tree bark and roots, driftwood, rocks, shells, wooden beads, dried flowers and live plants. She said, “I hope to give people the chance to explore their own creativity by viewing my pieces and seeing what they see in them, not just what I see.”
From an engraved driftwood sign with the saying “Just Beachy” to a wizards pipe and a golden eagle and back to a unicorn mermaid staring at a two headed eel, this show is about imagination allowing the onlooker to see life as they see it.
Ronan uses a variety of techniques to achieve her unique style of art including engraving, carving, sanding, wood burning, painting, staining and beading. She also preserves moss and plants and uses found objects to embellish her designs.
The Ronan family, which includes A.T.’s husband Ed and feline friends, moved to Newport in 1990. A.T. retired from Oregon Coast Community College in 2013 and has been exploring her creativity since. Her prior formal education was in the graphic arts where she learning the basics of typography and composition and the importance of movement in a design.
