Yaquina Art Gallery Wall Spotlight Show featuring the artwork of jewelry designer Calisse Browne and photographer Sylvia Hosie – October 27th to November 9th
In a two week Wall Spotlight Show from October 27th to November 9th, the Yaquina Art Association will be featuring the artwork of jewelry designer Calisse Browne and photographer Sylvia Hosie. The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW Beach Drive. Hours of operation are 11 am to 4 pm every day.
Calisse Browne (Silver Moments Jewelry by Browne Designs) is a jewelry artist. Calisse entered the craft by taking metalsmithing classes at the Denver School of Metal Art and training from other artists.
Calisse loves working metals, stones, glass, enamel, and jewels into something unique and beautiful. It brings her joy to see someone wearing and enjoying a piece of jewelry that she has created. She also enjoys reading about the metaphysical properties of stones and used to carry some in her pockets to benefit from those properties. Now she creates “wearable art”.
Calisse grew up on a farm in Indiana with a ginormous family. The Browne family lived in Colorado for over twenty years and recently moved to Oregon. They have four children and two grandchildren.
Inspiration comes from nature and a love of traveling which has included Africa, China, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Russia, France, Great Brittain, Scotland, Germany, Croatia, Italy, Spain, Monaco, and Greece.
Sylvia A. Hosie, a fine art photographer, will have display of traditional and non-traditional pictures. She is now delving into digital painting on some of her photographs. This gives a looser, more stylized look to these images. Others are composites of multiple photos and textures. All are scenes from the Oregon Coast or around the American West. Hosie states “the composites are a lot of trial and error. You have an image in your head and you start playing. Sometimes it works, other times not. Then there are the ones that take on a life of their own and completely surprise you. Great fun and always a learning experience.”
Hosie has been a member of the Yaquina Art Association since 1984. She is also a member of the Toledo Arts Guild, the Portland Photographic Society, and the Nature Photographers of the Pacific Northwest. Her work is on display year round at the Yaquina Art Center and the Shilo Resort in Newport. Her website is sylviahosiephotography.com.
