Yaquina Art Gallery Wall Spotlight Show featuring the artwork of photographer John Williams and artist Alana Williams – September 15th to September 28th

YAA Spotlight

In a two week Wall Spotlight Show from September 15th to September 28th, the Yaquina Art Association will be featuring the artwork of couple: photographer John Williams and artist Alana Williams . The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW Beach Drive. Hours of operation are 11 am to 4 pm every day.

John William’s photography reflects his attraction to coastal subjects having growing up in a commercial fishing family on the Mendocino Coast of California.  In the late 50’s artists began coming to Mendocino to settle and display their wares at galleries around the town and John was able to take a wide variety of classes from many of them.  John became interested in photography in his teens but it was observing Ansel Adams photographing the Coast of Mendocino County that really influenced him. The techniques that Adams used changed the way John approaches his own picture making.  After retiring from a 40 year career as an Electrical Engineer he is now able to devote his time to photography and woodturning. He finds the Oregon coast is a wonderful location for the types of landscape photos he takes. He and his wife have been member of the Yaquina Art Association for more than 15 years and enjoy the diversity of the other artists that exhibit there.

Alana Williams has always been creative; beginning with her High School in Ogden, Utah where she was introduced to pottery.  There she learned how to form clay and throw pots on a wheel. After earning her college degree in Business Administration, Alana married and spent the next several years moving to different jobs with her husband and son, finally settling in Albany Oregon where she developed two life-long passions.  The first being gardening with the second being Folk Art and Decorative Painting. Her garden became a showcase and was a favorite on the yearly garden tour. At the same time her painting drew an ever increasing following. She attended many workshops and took classes from several renowned artists then developed a style or her own.  In 2005 she joined the Yaquina Art Association and took her first watercolor classes. Alana loved this medium and has been devoting her time to watercolor and acrylic painting. Her favorite subjects are flowers and animals. In the YAA gallery Alana sells her watercolor paintings, Prints, hand painted wooden boxes, and “Collage On Wood” creations.

All prints are done on the latest digital print papers chosen to enhance the image.  They may be matte, luster, glossy or canvas papers. All are fine paper from several sources which guarantee quality and uniformity to match the printers she uses.  All prints are expected to have a life of 100 yrs if mounted, framed and hung out of direct sunlight. She and her husband do not have a web site as they are ‘retired’ and wants to concentrate on enjoying making their art and not running a business.
