Yaquina Art Gallery Pedestal Spotlight Show featuring the artwork of John Williams–June 1st to June 15th
In a two week Pedestal Spotlight Show from June 1st to June 15th, the Yaquina Art Association will be featuring the wood turning artwork of John Williams. The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW Beach Drive. Hours of operation are 11 am to 5 pm every day.
John’s woodturning began in 1981 when he added a wood lathe to his wood shop in North Albany Oregon. He used it make parts for the unfinished wood pieces his wife was selling through their Tole painting shop. He seriously began to turn wood objects after contacting Peter Child, a renowned British wood turner who taught him the proper methods to turn artistic pieces.
Today John has a wood shop south of Seal Rock where he still uses that same lathe to make Bowls, Plates, Salt and Pepper grinders, Tool Handles, and specialty items. He prefers to use local woods with small amounts of exotic wood to enhance the end product. John displays and sells in the YAA Gallery and at local open air markets along with his photographs and paintings his wife, Alana, creates.
John has been an avid photographer since the 70’s as well. His photographs reflect his attraction to coastal subjects having growing up in a commercial fishing family on the Mendocino Coast of California. After a 40 year career as an Electrical Engineer he is now retired and able to devote his time to woodturning and photography. He has been a member of the YAA for 7 years
