Mary Young and couple Michael & Maureen Farer are featured artists in a two week spotlight

YAA Spotlight

Mary Young and couple Michael & Maureen Farer are featured artists in a two week spotlight show at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery in Nye Beach.  The show will be Dec. 10-Dec. 23, 2016 and is open 11 am to 4 pm daily at 789 NW Beach Drive in Newport. There are also display tables set up with arts and crafts for the holidays with many unique gift ideas by local artists.

Mary Young has been creating fused glass art for ten years. The constant surprises, playing with color, and making happy things are the best part of glass projects. The interest in glass started with her Father, who bought a kiln to experiment with. It just took off from there: exploring, trying new techniques, and just playing around.

Mary has lived in Newport for ten years. She grew up in Seattle, WA and lived in Portland, OR. before moving to the beautiful Oregon Coast. She has been a member of the Yaquina Art Association since 2007. Right now she is currently involved in displaying all the 3-D art in the Yaquina Art Gallery, and has served as Treasurer for the past few years. It is very important for her to give back to a wonderful organization like YAA.

Under the name Whimsy Art Glass, Mary sells her glass work in the Newport Farmer’s Market, the Lincoln City Farmer’s Market, and the Winter Market at the Lincoln County Commons. Her artwork can also be the Sparks Gallery in Depoe Bay.

Michael and Maureen Farer have been active in design and the arts most of their lives. Michael was an industrial designer, while Maureen was involved in fashion and interior design. They are now creating amazing watercolors.

Their latest series of work involves close-ups of animals, focusing on just a few characteristics of an animal that make them easily identifiable.

They love it here on the Oregon coast. It’s a great place to try things they’ve always put off.
