Pedestal spotlight show with the artwork of Iori Ucihata
June 4-17 will be an pedestal spotlight show with the artwork of Iori Ucihata at the Yaquina Art Association gallery in Newport Oregon. The gallery located at 789 NW Beach Drive is open from 11-5 pm daily.
Iori Ucihata never had the opportunity to attend any school of fine arts, but she has always had a great interest in “colors and designs.”
The colors and designs of Japanese kimono and obi have always been a delight to her eyes. The abounding use of colors and designs of good fortune, especially in the garments worn by kabuki and noh actors, and the fabrics many of which have silver and gold threads woven into them, these garments are magnificent national treasures.
It is her desire to make these colors and designs such as the ones used in Japanese traditional kimono known to the world that motivated her to begin painting.
Iori says,” My newest challenge is using oyster shells as my canvas, Oyster shells are a treasure from the sea, and using them as my canvas is exciting and stimulating!”
