Spotlight shines on Carol Phillips and Diana Perez-Moya
Painters Carol Phillips and Diana Perez-Moya will be featured artists at a 2 week spotlight show in the Yaquina Art Association Gallery in Newport Oregon. The show will run from April 4 through April 17th and is open to the public from 11 am to 4 pm daily at 789 NW Beach Drive in the Nye Beach Turnaround.
Carol Phillips has lived and painted in the Pacific Northwest for 25 years, painting on location and traveling abroad with her paints. She paints in watercolor and oil and works out of her studio located in Newport, Or. She taught art at Western Washington University and volunteers at the local Shakespearean Theater as a set painter.
Carol is an experienced plein air painter who has studied under Deanne Lemley, a disciple of Sergei Bongart, the famed Russian landscape artist known for his use of dramatic color. Her artwork has been in exhibits throughout the United States and in France and won awards in many of those exhibits. The freshness and honesty of plein air painting appeal to Carol’s sense of adventure. She is in the Plein Air Washington and Plein Air Painters of Oregon Associations as well as the Yaquina Art Association.
Diana Perez-Moya will be showing oils and acrylic painting and collages in her spotlight show. Diana grew up in Bogota, Colombia and moved to Oregon in 1999 bringing with her the strong and explosive colors of the tropic. She was 13 when she discovered her love for color and art while taking Oil classes with the well-know Spanish painter Pepe Garcia.
She studied different art mediums at the University and fashion design in Begota. Soon after arriving in Newport she continued her learning path by taking ceramic and drawing classes at the Yaquina Art Association. She is interested in upcycling and giving old things a new purpose as you will see in her collages and oyster painted shells.
