Spotlight on Artisan, Tara Callaway
There will be a two week Artisan spotlight show featuring jewelry and rock lamps from Tara Callaway in the Yaquina Art Association Gallery in Newport Oregon. The show is at 789 NW Beach Drive in the Nye Beach Turnaround and is open daily from 11-4. Her show runs from March 14 to March 27th.
Tara grew up traveling and she was constantly searching for interesting and fun jewelry that represent the culture and lifestyle of the people. She has had jewelry designs in her mind but has just recently developed the skill to create the beautiful designs that were in her mind. Her designs are inspired by the places she has traveled, experienced and lived.
Tara chooses only natural materials such as high quality gemstones, pearls, metals, bone and horn. With her husband, she likes to make rock lamps from locally found Oregon Coast rocks. It is a great physical activity hauling and choosing rocks and it also gives them a chance to be outside enjoying the sunny days. They received training from her uncle in Superior, WI, who has been a stone mason for over 25 years.
Tara is originally from northern Illinois but since leaving there in 2008 she has moved 17 times, living and working in places such as Joshua Tree National Park, Mount Rainier National Park, Alaska (in a weatherport!), Peru, Greece, Italy, Colorado and now Oregon. As a Park Ranger and Botanist, her jobs have taken her all over the country and she has enjoyed learning about diverse ecosystems. Outside of work, her husband and her enjoy recreating outdoors, especially when it involves climbing, mountaineering, backpacking and running.
