Ken Hartwell will be the featured Artisan at a two week spotlight show
Yaquina Art Association President, Ken Hartwell will be the featured Artisan at a two week spotlight show in the YAA gallery from Jan. 31-Feb. 13th, 2015. His clay pottery will be shown at 789 NW Beach Drive in Nye Beach. The gallery is open from 11 am to 4 pm daily.
Ken Hartwell will be showing approximately 27 of his hand built clay items including vases, bowls, pencil holders and odd shaped creative pieces. Ken is the instructor for the YAA clay class. He began working with clay when he was in high school and has been teaching the clay classes to the Yaquina Art Association for the past 9 years. The class is the second largest class that the YAA offers. The studio offers recycled clay to the students for free and then there is just the firing fee. Classes are every Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 to 3:30 pm. and the class welcomes new members.
Ken has been president of the YAA for the past two years as well as one time previously. He has served as treasurer for 6 years as well. Ken believes in giving back to the community. He spearheads the kids programs and has been teaching the children in the county for the past 17 years at schools and in after school classes sponsored by Yaquina Art Association. He teaches many types of art including watercolor, colored pencil, fish printing and some clay throughout Waldport, Toledo, and Newport.
The Yaquina Art Association is a community based non-profit art organization whose primary purpose is to provide art education and promote appreciation of the arts. This is done by providing a variety of tuition free classes, maintaining a gallery and gift shop for local artist’s to sell their work, and funding a scholarship program for students in the community. It has been a steady artistic and educational influence in the Lincoln County area since 1947.
