The Yaquina Art Association will feature the artwork of Charlotte Carter and Brenda Trotter in a two week spotlght show. The show will run daily from Nov. 3 through Nov. 15, 2014 from 11 am to 4 pm. The gallery is located at 789 NW Beach Drive in Newport, Oregon. The gallery also features additional artwork and crafts from local artisans.
Charlotte is a member of the Yaquina Art Association. She teaches a weekly art class in pastels at the Newport Visual Arts Center. She is also a mother of 2, a grandmother of 7 children, and a senior citizen. With a B S in Design in Drawing and Painting from the University of Michigan, she has worked as a technical illustrator, a graphic artist, a television production artist and a publications artist for many years. Being retired now, she can devote full time to her art.
Her paintings involve nature, things like fruit, flowers, or things that change (like weather, the ocean, skies or people). She uses lots of color to create or enhance a mood. Her art looks atmospheric and semi-abstract. She likes asymmetry and will frequently break the traditional rules to create something unusual. She likes to experiment with pastels, watercolors or mixed media. In the past she has painted in oil & acrylics, and has drawn using colored pencils, ink & charcoal. She has also been a ceramic potter, and a sculptor using clay or welded metal.
Charlotte has previously have taught Ceramics and Sculpture at Public Schools, Adult Education Programs and at a Potters’ Guild where she was a member for 15 years. In past years she has exhibited paintings, ceramics and sculpture in local, regional and national art shows including Michigan, Florida, Texas, California, American Samoa and Oregon. Her paintings can also be seen at the Newport Senior Center, The Historical Association, at a few local doctors’ offices and at the Newport Samaritan hospital.
Brenda J. Trotter says that since retiring several years ago she has been developing her photography skills. She is a self-taught photographer “with lots to learn”. She presently lives in Newport, Oregon. Since Newport is home to a very active photography club, she is working to improve her skill while enjoying the beauty that surrounds her on the coast of Oregon. BJ says, “My real passion is macro-photography but also enjoy landscape. Since Oregon is so diverse. I have numerous shooting locations within a couple of hours drive. I also like to travel and record what I see with an artistic slant.”
