Hosie and Passarelli Combine for YAA Spotlight
There will be a two week spotlight featuring artists Sylvia A. Hosie and Lila Passarelli from June 14 to June 27 at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery. The gallery is open from 10-5 pm daily and is located at 789 NW Beach Drive in the Nye Beach area of Newport Oregon.
Sylvia A. Hosie will show her photogarphy with the theme “At Water’s Edge”. Where land meets the sea is a magical place for photographers with wet sand reflections, breaking waves, lonely lighthouses, and treasures from the sea. Although Hosie is a travel photographer who has traveled the world these images are much closer to home. All were taken along the Oregon and California coastline. “I love the translucence of a breaking wave and how wet sand will reflect the sky’s sunset colors. To intensify this I have printed some photos on metallic paper and had two of them done on aluminum metal.”
Hosie is a third generation Oregonian who has been photographing her home state since the early eighties. Her photo credits include Camping Life, Oregon Coast, and Oregon Adventures magazines. She has also been published in several books and calendars. Her images have been juried into art shows around Oregon. This summer she is at the weekly Toledo Street Market.
Lila Passarelli has been a member of the YAA since 1977. She began her lessons with Bill Runyan in the pen and ink class, added the oil painting a few months later. After a couple years I joined the watercolor class that was taught by Harry Niemela.
Lila is specially fond of animals as subjects, although the Oregon lighthouses, seascapes, landscapes, and an occaisional flower painting can be found in her studio. Lila has had many shows over the years and some of her work can be seen at Oregon Coast Eye Care. Lila also does Encaustic painting. The usual Encaustic painters use beeswax and can produce lovely work. Lila uses Crayola crayons to make unique paintings with melted crayons. This is the fun part.
