Two week spotlight featuring the artwork of the YAA Colored Pencil class

YAA Spotlight

There will be a two week spotlight show at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery featuring the artwork of the YAA Colored Pencil class.  The show will run from Jan. 11 to Jan. 24 at the gallery located at 789 NW Beach Drive in Newport.  This Nye Beach Gallery is open from 11-4 pm daily.

The colored pencil class meets on Wednesdays from 9-11 am weekly in the upstairs classroom of the Visual Art Center.  The instructor is Laura Miller.  She moved here 12 years ago from Alaska and purchased Laura’s Studio By The Bay, in  Waldport, where she has held many art classes and workshops over the years.  Laura recently visited St. Petersburg, Russia, an art cultural center, as well as making many  trips over the years to The Village of Zhostovo, a center for Russian Folk Art outside of Moscow, and the Village of Palehk, the center for miniature lacquered boxes and Russian icons, also outside of Moscow.  The class feels blessed to have such a talented teacher who loves all mediums of art and is willing so share her knowledge.  The class has approximately 11-15 people that come out regularly. The students are of all ages.  They also invite others to come join the fun.

The purpose of the YAA is to teach and further the pursuit and appreciation of the visual arts and crafts and then to exhibit and provide an outlet for the members and the community.  The YAA gallery provides both classes and then the opportunity for members to sell items they have recently completed.  Other art classes offered are: Watercolor classes on Mondays from 9-11 am,  Oil and Acrylic class on Tues. from 9-11 am and Pastel classes on Thurs. from 10-12.
