There will an artisan spotlight featuring the art of Diana Perez-Moya at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery in Nye Beach from June 8-21, 2013. The gallery is open from 10 am to 5 pm daily.
Diana Perez-Moya grew up in the land of color, having been born and raised in the city of Bogota in Colombia. The memories of bright and explosive colors are imprinted in her and her work. Art is a world of continuous experimentation and learning. She lived in a very big city always dreaming of a small place by the ocean. She even painted it. Now she is excited to be living here after falling in love back in 1999 and following her heart and her love to the US and becoming a citizen in 2008.
When she was 13 years old she took her first oil painting class with the Spanish artist Pepe Garcia and continued taking his classes for many years. Diana has studied different art mediums at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, Colombia. She took a seminar in Fashion Design at Casa Fabricato, also in Bogota, and continued her learning path after she arrived in the United States, when she took ceramic classes with Janet Wallace.
She has taken some drawing classes at Yaquina Art Associationafter joining in January 2012.. She is experimenting with glossies (a water based paint) on different surfaces.
She is interested in upcycling. She says, “It worries and saddens me to see how much we waste. A broken mirror can be a great canvas, the discarded small pieces of something can become an important part of a new, useful and beautiful thing.” She will be displaying different mediums; pyrography, glossies on glass and conks, acrylic on wood and ceramic, and jewelry with handmade beads and collage. She loves painting on canvas, glass and mirrors, painting pet portraits, photography, making greeting cards, etc.
She loves animals and is especially fond of those in need. She volunteered at the Lincoln County Animal Shelter for five years and volunteers for Pick of the Litter now.
When she came to Newport, she began English classes. Almost a year later she was a volunteer teacher’s assistant for that class. She has since tutored and worked at Oregon Coast Community college as an Instructional Assistant for t ten years and recently as a noncredit Spanish teacher.
