Ginger Gouveia will be spotlighted at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery
Ginger Gouveia will be spotlighted at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery from March 23-April 5, 2013. Ginger is a member of the Yaquina Art Association and the YAA Photographers in Newport, Oregon. The show is open from 11 am to 4 pm daily at 789 NW Beach Drive next to the Visual Art Center in Newport.
Ginger Gouveia, a resident of Waldport, has found tremendous joy in looking through the lens of her camera. Whether photographing someone she meets in her travels or a scene from nature, her hope is to inspire a fresh interest in the subject.
During this Spotlight Show she will share some of the photos from a recent a trip to Bhutan and Northern India as well as others from from her travels. Her collection “Children of the World” has been exhibited in Newport, Corvallis, and Portland.
Ginger has spent much time in New Orleans, as a volunteer, since Katrina and will be returning in April. This trip will involve a photography workshop for young children at a non-profit organization in the 7th Ward. She hopes to gather donated, used digital cameras for the children, help them with basics of photography and teach them how to use the digital cameras.
Opportunities to develop skills and interests in the arts are seriously lacking in the lower-income communities of New Orleans where children are still dealing with the devastating flood damage that followed the hurricane.
There will also be photography from the Yaquina Art Association Photographers spotlighted during the two week show representing a variety of artists from Lincoln County. The Photography club meets at 7 pm on the first and third Monday evenings of the month in the upstairs classroom of the Visual Art Center in Newport, Oregon.
