YAA Fundraiser Winner Drawn
Ruth Coberly has been donating intricately beaded necklaces to the Yaquina Art Association for the past 17 years. The necklaces are raffled off each year to raise money for the YAA and its scholarship program. This year’s winner is Phillip Pinheiro of Bremerton, Washington.
Ruth Coberly is 97 years old and has been making the necklaces for 18 years. She has been a member of the YAA. She has taken classes from art professors and local instructors, enjoying oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels and now pencil, pen and ink and beading.
Ruth Coberly moved to the Oregon Coast with her husband from Utah in 1956. She worked as a “made to measure” women’s garments seamstress and pattern maker after serving in the army as a mess sergeant. Before the army she woked in an ammunition factory during World War 2.
She keeps active by going to church and serving in the community. She has learned what service is and she is still giving back through her beaded necklaces. The Yaquina Art Association and community appreciate Ruth.
