You may attend one or all. The fee is $20 for the 4 weeks. The cost is the same whether you attend one or all 4. This is to help defray expenses. Materials will be provided for the first class.
We meet at our new location: the classroom behind the 1st Baptist Church at 208 NW 6th. (1/2 block off 101, next to Bike Newport)
Instructor: Colleen Caubin: colleencaubinart.com (award winning artist, with local, national and international juried shows)
The classes will give you tools to take your painting to the next level, giving you a firm understandable foundation to use on your own. It’s suitable for all painting media, including pastel. These skills are the basis of any good painting in any style. Each week we will address one main skill and learn how to apply it in our work. The last week we will put it all together in a live painting. I’ve pulled out all my best and most powerful tools to give you a leg up, and reveal some short cuts to success. Beginners to advanced all are welcome.
Some materials will be provided in class, but the student needs to have their own paints and a good surface to paint on or some will be available for purchase in the class, for $2 each
March 18, Drawing/Composition, why this is the first and most important skill, the foundation of all art.
March 25, Value, how to see and judge it, why it is more important than color and a tool that will make it so much easier. This week could be the game changer for you.
April 1, Color, the big mystery revealed, a simple plan to make it work for you without complicated rules and theories.
April 8, Putting it all together in a painting. Starting a painting with a plan means you are more likely to get the results you want. We will do a 2 hour session of live painting that will let you put all the skills in place.
Class is limited to 15 so sign up early.
After you sign up you will be sent an email for suggested materials. Sign up for the class by contacting: Ken Hartwell, hartwell@peak.org. Everyone is welcome! You are not required to be a member of YAA.
