Making and Taking Photos that Pop
The Yaquina Art Association Photographers will be holding a presentation on taking and improving images captured in photography. The YAAP program will be held Monday, June 2 at 7 pm in the VAC upstairs classroom in Nye Beach at 777 NW Beach Drive, Newport, Oregon. Three presenters will share their expertise.
Carl Baker will show examples of how he increased the impact of several of his photographs. He will show how several subtle adjustments to a photograph can make it pop. Changes to contrast, lighting, micro-contrast, and saturation will be discussed.
Ted Crego will present “Post Processing to Highlight Subject”. Learn a few techniques in post processing your image to force the viewer to see what you wanted them to focus on.Ted will focus on using the knowledge of what your eye and brain do when they see an image to improve your photos. Post processing can take this information and use it to benefit your photograph.
Cody Cha will present an “Introduction to Night Photography”. Cody will share personal tips and basic techniques on photographing the magical twilight landscape to starry night sky. Learn how to capture stunning nighttime scenes. Discover the secrets of night photography.
Carl Baker started taking photos in high school and even learned how to develop and print black and white photos. But he did not get serious until digital photography became affordable in the early 2000’s. Digital photography allowed him to experiment in his photography and to greatly improve his photos. He moved to Newport from Houston, Texas 1.5 years ago and has been taking wildlife and landscape photos since his arrival.
Ted Crego was born and raised in Balwinsville, New York (near Syracuse). He attended Alfred University and received BS degree in Ceramic Engineering. He moved to Oregon in 1985 to work at Precision Castparts as a Process Engineer. He retired and moved to Newport in 2010. His photo interests are varied, but Ted enjoys finding images that others may overlook, such as patterns and macro shots. Lately he has been doing more panoramas and high dynamic range photos. Ted says, “There is always something new to learn in photography. ”
Cody Cha is a landscape photographer based in central Oregon coast. Living on the coast, he is surrounded by rugged shorelines, powerful ocean, and dramatic weather; which Cody uses for inspiration to create his stunning images. Cody’s approach to his work is one of no compromise. He will visit a location year after year in order to capture a scene in just the right conditions. His passion for the outdoors and photography enables him to create iconic images from Oregon’s diverse landscape.
