Pam Parker Awarded Peoples Choice Award
Pam Parker, a local artist, was chosen as the Peoples Choice winner at the Yaquina Art Association 10th Annual Juried Art Show. Everyone entering the YAA gallery was invited to give their input to which art piece juried into the month long show would win the $100 People’s Choice prize. The Yaquina Art Association gallery is located at 789 NW Beach Drive in Nye Beach, Newport Oregon and is open daily from 11 am to 4 pm.
Pam Parker entered her watercolor on Yupo entitled “Golden Glow”. The inspiration for this artwork came to Pam who was hiking in the Cascades by a creek on a hillside. The warmth of the sun on the creek that day helped paint the image in Pam’s mind that would be painted in watercolors to win this award. Pam Parker is a member of the Yaquina Art Association and has been using watercolors for the past 15 years. She not only continues to go to watercolor classes at the YAA but helps teach them, both at the YAA where watercolor classes are held every Monday morning from 9-11 am in the upstairs classroom above the Visual Art Center and in Lincoln City at the ASA. Pam Parker is a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon. She is on the hanging committee at the YAA gallery as well.
The Yaquina Art Association teaches classes that are open to the public. Other classes besides the Monday Watercolor Class from 9-11 am are the Tuesday Oil and Acrylic class from 9-11 am, the Tuesday China Painting Class from 1-3:30 m and the clay class from 12:30-3:30 pm. On Wednesday the Colored Pencil drawing class is held from 9-11:30 am and on Thursday there is a Pastel class that meets from 10 am to noon.
