YAQUINA ART ASSOCIATION ARTIST SHOW, October 26 – November 8, 2024. Janey Mae Bevill & Linda Radcliff

YAA Spotlight

Based in Newport, Janey Mae Bevill is a surrealist artist and oil painter of 20+ years, poet, soprano singer and Board Member of Coastal Voices, YAA member, OCCA member, shore explorer, and “Aunty Birdy” to several wonderful round-faced kiddos. Janey Mae studied Fine Arts and Design at the University of Oregon and Architecture at USC. Her artistic style has often been described as elegant, vibrant and dynamic and she is inspired by the delicacy, boldness and intricate patterns found on the Oregon Coast and within the human spirit.

The show features a collection titled “Looking Through Fairy Stones.” The collection is based on a practice of looking at a variety of ocean environments through Fairy Stones: rocks with holes and channels naturally worn through them by the elements that leave a window to look through. This small window can move around your environment and highlight various scenes, colors, patterns and edges around you. “I hope others take inspiration from this practice and have their own experience looking at many wonders through fairy stones.”

Other original experiments in oil paint, watercolor and ink will be available, as well as prints of Janey Mae’s more elaborate works. Janey Mae hopes that “each piece finds who it is meant for and that the energy and boldness contained in each brings many positives into your home and life. Cheers, to reawakening and continuing to stumble bravely through this life!”

Linda Radcliff Photography

For someone who claims she can’t draw a stick figure, local artist Linda Radcliff has a good eye and a great sense of fun from creating images. Like many of us living on the Oregon coast, Linda is drawn to natural forms and colors. Her home is near the north side of the Yaquina Head lighthouse so it is an easy choice for her.

Once she used a traditional camera but has now opted to seize special moments with digital images. Linda says she prints without altering the colors in most cases. So the sunset you see is the same as what she found.

Part of her “just for fun” pieces are alcohol inks in vivid colors that she combines to striking effect and, she says, surprises. The ones that delight her have been reproduced as larger format canvas prints that are ready to hang and reduced to greeting cards. Sometimes Linda has accented the images with metallic lines.

Each of her pieces leaves an emotional impact.

Linda says she has always dabbled in crafts and sold through fairs and farmers markets. Through the years, she has looked for ways to share what she sees with others in an appealing way.

Linda Radcliff is an active member of YAA for over 15 years. Linda grew up in central California and she and her husband Jim followed their kids to the Oregon coast and live in Newport.
