Yaquina Art Gallery Spotlight Wall Show featuring the photography of Andree Devine and Walt Duvall – October 1st to October 14th
In a two-week Spotlight Wall Show from October 1st to October 14th, the Yaquina Art Association will be featuring the photography of Andree Devine and Walt Duvall. The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW Beach Drive. Hours of operation are 11 am to 4 pm every day.
Andree Devine says: When I was a kid, art was a normal part of daily life. My mother is an accomplished mixed media artist and she has always encouraged us to dig in to our creative sides. Seeing what my mom had in process in her studio as well as the work of her artist and photographer friends was instrumental in seeding my interest in art and photography. But my professional life ended up taking a more scientific turn and I instead found a career in the world of electron microscopy and materials science.
My journey into the craft and art of photography actually started under the sea. Seeing such beauty in the open ocean as well as in colorful and irreplaceable reef environments, as well as the animals that call these places home made me want to share my images with others who don’t have as intimate a relationship with the underwater world. I read lots of books and articles, participated in workshops and put in the hard work to develop my underwater photography skills.
I don’t think I have to tell anyone that the last couple of years necessitated some creative reinvention. For me, it meant getting to know birds, their behaviors and their environments. And I learned from the other bird photographers that I met along the way.
As many of my favorite dive locations are now beginning to welcome visitors again, I will be curious to see how my experiences on land influence my underwater photography when I finally can return to my happy place beneath the waves.
Walt Duvall Says: “Everyone should have a passion in life and mine is fine art photography. I specialize in nature’s color, shape, design and light. For the past forty years, I have lived in the small coastal and fishing community of Newport OR. I have been retired for many years, allowing me time to explore our iconic bridges, lighthouses, and beaches, as well as colorful sunrises and sunsets.
I started my photographic journey back in the 60’s in high school, and continued while in the military touring Europe, allowing me to visit museums and studying the great art masters. After military service, I continued my photography education with courses, books and magazines. In the last 20 years, I have studied with noted photographers such as Art Wolf, Marc Adamus, and the team of David Middleton and Brenda Berry, while also attending online classes. I have also donated my time to the Alaska Raptor Center, Sitka Conservation Society, Oregon Coast Community Forrest Association and Newport Fishermen’s Wives, helping all of them to promote their non-profit goals. Currently, I am a member of Yaquina Arts Association, Yaquina Arts Association Photographers (YAAP), Oregon Central Coast Photography Group, and Oregon Professional Photographers Association.
I have been published, won both local and international art awards, including an image added to the “Leica Master Shot” collection, and sold my work across the U.S. I pride myself in providing you with pieces of art that are only of the highest quality. I have worked equally hard to find a reliable printing partner who shares my desire to provide the most exceptional prints. “
