Yaquina Art Gallery Pedestal Spotlight Show featuring the artwork of Jane Hodgkins – September 7th to September 20th
In a two week Pedestal Spotlight Show from September 7th to September 20th, the Yaquina Art Association will be featuring the artwork of Jane Hodgkins. The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW Beach Drive. Hours of operation are 11 am to 4 pm every day.
Handmade books by Jane Hodgkins are featured in the Pedestal Spotlight Show at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery. Books in the show are primarily from prints by Hodgkins. They combine a love of bookmaking and printmaking. “For this show, I decided to display my prints in a new format. I have incorporated them in hand bound tradition, accordion, and new “explosion” books. “ The covers of the explosion books are 4.5 x 4.5 inches but they pop open to 11 x 23 inches.” “It’s a great way to store and display prints when you run out of wall space” The books feature a variety of printing techniques including linocuts, silk screens, nature prints, and eco dyed leaf prints. Hodgkins notes she began printmaking four years ago after retiring from Oregon Coast Community College. “I retired at the end of spring term 2015 and enrolled in an art class at OCCC the very next term. It was the start of a whole new adventure. Since then I’ve also taken classes at Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, the Newport paper Arts Festival, and the Yaquina Art Association.”
