YAA Spotlight

In a two week Wall Spotlight Show from May 25th to June 7th, the Yaquina Art Association will be featuring the artwork of Joyce Centofanti and Sylvia Hosie. The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW Beach Drive. Hours of operation are 11 am to 5 pm every day.

Joyce Michelina Centofanti, PhD lives in Seal Rock and is a professional Artist, Art Educator, Ceramics and Special Education Consultant.

Joyce’s new wall works capture the Oregon Coast and reveals the knowledge and meaning of her experiences of visiting a place. Evoking the response of a smile and laughter, or passionate inquiry from others through the artwork is one of the goals. With the use of color and bold compositional form, the intent is to draw spectators into the whimsical spaces as laughing and/or contemplative participants in the often-lighthearted environments.

“Dr. Joyce” has exhibited in twenty-six solo and fifty-seven juried exhibits in museums and galleries throughout the United States, Canada, China, Russia and Sweden. She’s presented internationally, nationally and at state conferences. She was an Artist-In-Residence, Great Navajo Nation Art Teacher, Tenured University Professor, Resource Specialist and President of the Colorado Art Education Association. Awards received include the Marion Quin Dix Leadership, Outstanding Alum Professional Achievement, NAEA/CAEA National Pacific Region Higher Education Art Educator of the Year, and University Faculty Award: Excellence in Student Engagement.

Sylvia A. Hosie’s two week Spotlight Show at the Yaquina Art Gallery will focus on nature, primarily animal images. “My bison photos are from a two month stay in Yellowstone National Park in 2018. In the early morning I would find the bulls looming out of the darkness with frost in their hair. To me these formidable animals personify the American West,” says Hosie.

Included in the show are composites that blend an animal with his environment. This is a project Hosie has worked on the past couple of years. “I want viewers to think about our natural world and how these animals are dependent on it.”

Also in this show are several of her favorite horse images that she is known for. Hosie has been a member of the Yaquina Art Association since 1984. She is also a member of the Toledo Arts Guild, the Portland Photographic Society, and the Nature Photographers of the Pacific Northwest. Her work is on display year round at the Yaquina Art Center and the Shilo Resort in Newport. Her website is sylviahosiephotography.com.
