Please visit the Yaquina Art Gallery Friday, July 28th from 5 pm to 7 pm to meet our talented 2017 Scholarship winner Kiana McCurry and have a last chance to view her show and purchase her artwork. The Yaquina Art Gallery is located at 789 Beach in the Nye Beach Turn-around, daily business hours are 11 am to 5pm every day.
Born in 1995 in Murrieta, California, Kiana McCurry is a hardworking artist dedicated to growth and learning. McCurry began private drawing lessons from a young age and continued her classes all the way to her studies at Oregon State University. There, she began embracing her acute attention to detail, patterns and repetition that is now associated with McCurry’s drawing and printmaking.
McCurry makes drawings, prints and mixed media artworks. By exploring the concept of landscape. McCurry investigates the manipulation of landscape and challenges our assumptions of what landscape should be by presenting an illusion of space within the repeating lines and patterns in her work.
Her drawings establish a link between the landscape’s reality and that imagined by its conceiver. By focusing on techniques and materials, she tries to develop forms that do not follow logical criteria, but are based on subjective associations, which incite the viewer to make new personal associations.
