Artist Spotlight Show Featuring Artists Peter O’Boyle and Michael & Maureen Farer April 22nd to May 5th
Peter O’Boyle is a Local artist and teacher who works from his studio adjacent to his home in Waldport, Oregon. Peter is a former university art professor who taught at the University of Arizona, Arizona, Wright State University, Ohio, California State Long Beach, California and Eastern Oregon State University, Oregon before retiring to the Oregon coast.
Peter’s watercolor paintings reflect the sculptured landscape and adobe ruins of the Southwest where he grew up. The bright colors and organic feel of the buildings and landscape are uniquely reflected in his watercolors. A bright palette is used to emphasize an emotional content in the paintings.
Peter’s current ceramic work focuses on hand built pieces that reflect the earthiness of clay. Many of his pieces are slump molded and seem to grow out of the ground. He likes to leave the marks on the work so that it is obvious to the observer that it was hand built. As in his paintings, texture and decorative touches are important to the pieces.
Peter grew up in New Mexico. He has a Bachelors of Art Education from the University of New Mexico. He then moved to Oregon and earned his Masters and Ph.D in Art Education at the University of Oregon.
He can be reached most days at his studio, Viewpoint Gallery, in Waldport, Oregon where he also teaches classes.. Viewpoint Gallery, 939 Seabrook Lane, Waldport 541-270-4905.
Michael and Maureen Farer have been active in design and the arts most of their lives. Michael was an industrial designer, while Maureen was involved in fashion and interior design. They are now creating amazing watercolors.
They love it here on the Oregon coast. It’s a great place to try things they’ve always put off.
