The Yaquina Art Association will feature the art of two local artists, Josephine Allen and Cody Cha on May 17-30, 2014 in the Nye Beach Turnaround. The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is open from 11-5 daily in Newport, Oregon and features the work of many local artists.
Art seems to be a human need Josphine Allen says and she would visit every art gallery and admired art work since childhood, but never started painting until she retired. She has worked with Pastels, Watercolor, Clay, and other media’s in Art but her favorite is Acrylic. She likes the fact that it dries quickly and mixing colors is fun. She likes to paint dogs as they bring joy to people’s lives and are man’s best friend. “My art is to make people laugh and not take life so seriously” Josephine says. The other part is to enjoy the beauty of life. We are given a gift and we should enjoy it everyday. Portraits, landscapes and any subject that gives her inspiration she will paint. Josephine likes all types of art whether it is Martial Arts, Painting, Writing, and working with materials. Josephine was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas but has been in Newport, Oregon for over 30 years and considers herself an Oregonian. She fell in love with the Oregon Coast at first sight. As a child growing up she was inspired by her brothers who were artists in making professional jewelry, musicians and singers who had there own band, Her father was a blacksmith who made tools and her mother who was always active in gardening, cooking and crocheting. In High School she took art and loved to paint but never did it again until later in life .
Cody Cha is an Oregon coast based photographer and cinematographer specializing in nature and landscape photography. Driven by love for exploring the great outdoors, his work captures unique and emotional natural beauty of the Oregon coast. Cody first discovered the charm of the Oregon coast on a brief visit many years ago. Having lived on the east coast all his life, Cody found the Oregon coast to be a place of captivating landscape and great adventures. Ever since, he knew he wanted to relocate to the Pacific Northwest. He made the move to the Oregon coast three years ago. He spends most of his time just discovering new places on the coast with or without the fancy camera. Who knows, you just might bump into him while you’re out tidepooling or sunset-gazing.
