Yaquina Art Gallery Spotlight Wall Show featuring the photography of Kim Cuc Tran and Ted Crego – July 23rd to August 5th

YAA Spotlight

In a two-week Spotlight Wall Show from July 23rd to August 5th , the Yaquina Art Association will be featuring the photography of Kim Cuc Tran and Ted Crego. The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW Beach Drive. Hours of operation are 11 am to 5 pm every day.

Kim was born and raised in Vietnam, escaped the communist by boat to Malaysia in 1980, and immigrated to the US in 1981. She graduated from Cal State University of Long Beach with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1986.

Her engineering career led her to Oregon in 2001, then she and her husband retired and moved to Newport, Oregon in 2009.

Photography has been a hobby and interest in her life. Her photography skill flourished as she started taking photography classes with the Vietnamese Artistic Photographic Association in 1993. Kim advanced further as she studied for 5 years at Tri-Community Photography School in Covina, California.

The process of capturing an image is fulfilling and enjoyable to her. She and her husband both enjoy going out looking for inspiring shots. They have been traveling for photography to many locations in the US and to many other countries. She enjoys shooting abstracts, close-ups, birds and flowers; and then creates artistic photos to share with the viewers.

Her mantra for photography is “Simplify, simplify, simplify”. This mantra has served her well in the process of capturing and creating inspiring images. She has received numerous awards in photography competitions.

Interested in becoming a member of the Yaquina Art Association? Please visit our gallery in Nye Beach to fill out a membership form. Annual membership dues are $40 and only 30 staffing hours a year are required to take part in an active gallery with a wonderful group of artists.

Ted says: Originally born and raised on a dairy farm in upstate New York. My degree is in Ceramic Engineering from Alfred University. My professional life was working for companies such as Coors Porcelain Co. and Coast Cast Corporation but mostly with Precision Castparts Corporation in Portland. Retired in 2009 and moved to Newport. I am having fun exploring my hobby of photography with my wife Kim Cuc Tran. We like taking vacations to places where we enjoy doing photography. Some of the places include Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, Peru, Tibet, Canada and a European river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest. Last year we cruised from Venice to Barcelona seeing 6 different countries. But some of our favorite places to visit are the wonderful National Parks throughout the USA.

My photo interests are varied, but enjoy finding images that others may overlook, such as patterns and macro shots. Lately, I have been doing more panoramas and HDR (High DynamicRrange) photos. There is always something new to learn in photography especially when it comes to the myriad of software programs for post processing.

My photographs have received awards in competitions through the Vietnamese Artistic Photographic Association, Tri-Community Photo Center, Photographic Society of America, Tryon Creek Photo Club, Oregon State Fair Salon of Photography, Nature Photographers of the Pacific North West, Columbia Council of Camera Clubs and the Yaquina Arts Association Photographers.

I am the past President of Yaquina Arts Association Photographers. If you are interested in joining a photo clubs to work on your skills, check out our photo club at YAAPhotographers.org
