Spotlight at YAA features artwork of 96 year old Solveig Leslie and Luella Hartwell
For two weeks the community can enjoy the artwork of one of YAA’s oldest members, Solveig Leslie, age 96 and friend, Luella Hartwell. This spotlight show will be at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery from July 9-July 22, 2016. The gallery is located at 789 NW Beach Drive in Newport, Oregon and is open daily from 11 am to 5 pm.
Solveig Leslie is still painting in spite of macular degeneration, which allows her to see mostly black and white and shades of gray. She continues, at the age of 96, to turn out lovely paintings, full of color. She is an inspiration to all, to keep on going, to never give up!
Luella Hartwell enjoys painting portraits of the ocean. She does her own photography from which to paint and spends time just observing the ocean, with all it’s nuances, and moods. The featured painting is one done sans brushes. Direct hand painting (gloved, of course), gives freedom to express the movement of the sea, and the delight felt from connecting the earth with art.
