Art Show features Powell and Allen
May 28-June 10th will be a 2 week spotlight show featuring the art of Photographer Sherrie Powell and Painter Josephine Allen. The show will be at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery in Nye Beach and is open from 11 am to 4 pm daily.
This winter Sherrie Powell has been busy up and down our coastline capturing high tides and minus tides through her lens. She’s visited our local ghost forest to the north several times capturing its many moods. She wants as many images as possible before it disappears again beneath the sand. Sherrie became interested in photography while assisting her father in his photography business and working in his darkroom years ago. Now instead of working in the darkroom, she enjoys processing her own images in her digital light room.
Sherrie finds joy in nature and the beauty and mystery of the world around us. Most recently she has been experimenting with creating her own works of art from the raw images she has captured with her camera. When you view her images she hopes to take you into the moment she clicked the shutter and at other times evoke a sense of wonder. If you feel drawn into them that purpose has been achieved. Her work has earned numerous awards, has appeared in various publications, and been shown in galleries around the Pacific Northwest. She is currently a member of the Yaquina Art Association, Yachats Arts Guild & Nature Photographers of the Pacific Northwest.
Josephine Allen has always been surrounded by art growing up. Her first art class was in High School. She then took Art History, Sculpture, and Photography at Texas Woman’s University. Thru the years she continued taking classes in Basket Making, Stain Glass, China Painting, Clay and making Jewelry. She started doing watercolor and then acrylic on her own at home. She then joined YAA and continued her art painting in Acrylic. She loves mystical and spiritual pictures that show our inner reason for happiness. She will feature horses, humming birds, dogs, sunsets, and other scenes of life. She just started Photography class and hopes to take pictures that will inspire new work. Cards are on sale of her work. She will be in the Gallery during her show to meet visitors.
