Two week spotlight show featuring the work of Elizabeth Atly and Sally Morris Oct 5 through Oct 18

YAA Spotlight

There will be a two week spotlight show featuring the work of Elizabeth Atly and Sally Morris.  The show will be from Oct. 5 through Oct. 18th at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery in historic Nye Beach in Newport Oregon at 789 NW Beach Drive.  The gallery is open from 11 am to 4 pm daily.  There will be an opening reception held from 2-4 pm on Sat., Oct. 5 with light refreshments, and music by Debbie Dypold “Dypola on the viola sola.”

Elizabeth Atly will show work in Photography as well as fused glass work.  She says, “I am inspired by light and color and serendipity, that special moment when the light is just right capturing that unique moment in a photograph is a special thrill. Color and light and serendipity also inspire my fused glass work.” She says she is happiest working with scrap glass from previous projects, finding shapes and colors that fit together serendipitously.

Elizabeth loves to repurpose old furniture with brightly colored prints, also sometimes using tile, and sandblasted glass.  She enjoys video editing and has produced several documentaries, two of which have garnered awards.  Elizabeth earned her bachelors degree with a major in art but never felt inspired in her painting classes.  A brief assignment in photography opened her eyes to photography as an art.  In this show she will exhibit some of her early work.  She earned an M.A. degree in French and taught at college level for four years before entering a Master of Architecture program at University of Washington.  She has over 30 years experience designing and remodeling homes and small commercial spaces.

Elizabeth’s work is currently displayed at Briseno Gallery in Toledo, and at Illingsworths and the Yaquina Art Association Gallery in Nye Beach. Other one-person art exhibits are scheduled at prominent local venues, to be announced. Her art work has been exhibited at several galleries on the Oregon Coast and Seattle. Some of her work can be seen at Etsy.com/shop/LightEssential.

Sally Ann Morris will be showing art from A-Z. She has taken every art class available to her since paying off college loans.  As a Navy wife she would take a class and by the time the teacher transferred she would be teaching it, then training her replacement. In both the Azores and Japan she had the opportunity to take classes from famous artists of those countries.  Also in San Diego she spent five years with Sandra Angelo studying colored pencil.

If you are impressed don’t be, she claims to have no natural talent, but lots of perseverance. She came to the Yaquina Art Association as a very accomplished beginner.  In the past three years she has had a chance to grow in watercolor, clay and pastels, as well as the chance to try china painting which  she can hardly wait to get started in. Sally says, artists who guide us there are just what she needed to take the steps to become the artist she always dreamed of being. Her motto is “Art is fun! It’s either a good day or a growing day and sometimes both.  I love my successes and laugh at my failures.  My failures on paper have two sides to work on, so no problem.”

As Elizabeth, Sally loves fused glass and hopes to sneak a piece or two in to the show along with one oil, one acrylic, a clay  piece or two and a wall of water color.
