The possibilities of what you can do with it are endless. When you create your final product it will last forever with good care. It is also my relaxation and the challenge of turning such pieces brings me great joy.”
The majority of his wood working knowledge has come from reading, experimentation, watching others in the same field, and he is all self-taught. At the present time he is a member of the Oregon Coast Woodturners Association, a member of the “Yaquina Art Association”and a member of the “Yachats Art Guild”.
Barry is originally from New Jersey and after graduating from high school he enlisted in the Navy and had the opportunity to see a lot of the world being assigned on a destroyer. After discharge he worked on a line gang with a public utility, working as an Electrical contractor and then working at a Nuclear Power Generating Station where he met and married his lovely wife, JoAnn. They have been married for many years, JoAnn is also an artist.
After an early retirement from there they moved to Sedona, Arizona where as a commercial pilot he flew Charter flights and Grand Canyon tours for Westwind Aviation. After 10 years in AZ they traveled the country in a motor home ending up in Newport in 2002. He worked as a State Park Ranger for 6 years and decided to retire permanently and pursue his love of woodworking. They do enjoy the occasional getaway travel adventures and recently returned from a cruise to Alaska.
