YAA Photographers offer programs
The Yaquina Art Association Photographers will meet on April 7th at 7 pm with two guest speakers. The programs will be by guests Patrick H. Corrigan and AAron Hockley. The topics will include using information technology and discussing the ten myths of data protection as well as the topic of using social media for marketing.
In this short presentation Mr. Corrigan will outline ten common misconceptions about data protection that can get you into trouble.He says, “The Internet is a wonderful thing. It provides information at your fingertips. Unfortunately, it also provides an impressive amount of misinformation, which gets repeated so often that it is assumed to be fact. This is definitely an issue with the topic of data protection.” He added, this quote from Mark Twain, Will Rogers & Yogi Berra, “”It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know that just ain’t so.”
Patrick H. Corrigan has been working in the field of information technology since 1980. He has authored several books and numerous magazine articles on networking, data storage, disaster prevention and recovery, and other IT-related topics. He has been involved in numerous aspects of Information Technology, including IT Management, consulting, writing, training, sales, and marketing. He has been an avid photographer since the age of twelve.
Aaron Hockley will take the rest of the meeting time to give an overview of the current state of social media and online marketing tools, with the angle of how they can help photographers. He says, “We’ll look at current tools, examine their strengths and weaknesses, and focus on which tools provide the most return for the time spent (and which can be safely ignored).”
Aaron Hockley is a photographer and writer based near Portland with a background in technology. His photographic work is a mixture of photography for businesses (portraits and events) as well as leisure. In addition to his photography business, he spends a fair amount of time helping photographers better navigate the online world and helping internet businesses understand how to best use photography. He’s been blogging since 2001, using Twitter since 2007, and leveraging these and other online tools to reach new clients and build relationships. Aaron has previously spoken at dozens of local, regional, and national events for online publishing, social media, and blogging.
