Yaquina Art Gallery Spotlight Wall Show featuring the artwork of Linda Devoy and Stephanie Adams – August 20th to September 2nd
In a two-week Spotlight Wall Show from August 20th to September 2nd, the Yaquina Art Association will be featuring the artwork of Linda Devoy and Stephanie Adams. The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW Beach Drive. Hours of operation are 11 am to 5 pm every day.
Linda Devoy’s unique show includes pieces of art with a coastal or animal theme created from repurposed costume and vintage jewelry in reused frames.
It all started when Devoy visited a restaurant in Beaverton as a teenager and was fascinated by a very large framed Christmas tree made entirely from glittery jewelry. She vowed that someday she would make a similar piece of art.
As a high school student Devoy studied French which gave her the opportunity to travel to Paris as an Au Paire. She lived with a French family and helped to care for the two children. Devoy also attended the Catholic Institute of Paris where she studied French history and grammar. Her au paire duties left her ample time to be a “professional tourist” and explore the many historical places in and around Paris. She also immersed herself in the many art museums totally appreciating the rich culture of the city. The Impressionist painter Claude Monet is her favorite.
When Devoy retired in 2017 her teenage dream was realized; she made a lovely Christmas tree from jewelry inherited from friends and relatives. She enjoyed the creative process of turning costume jewelry into art objects so much that she was hooked. “It’s like a puzzle,” Devoy said, “one particular piece of jewelry will start my creative thinking to make a mermaid, crab, seahorse, or maybe a cat or dog. (She is also interested in Sasquatch and he sneaks into many of her creations). Most of the vintage and costume jewelry, (as well as the frames), used by Devoy comes from friends, thrift stores or various websites. Linda and her husband, Pat, bought their “forever” home in Newport in 2015 and moved here full time in April 2017 with their cat “Elvis”.
Stephanie Adams says: I am a Resin Artist and my business is Fluid Art by Stephanie! I was born and raised in Central California. After a career in Real Estate and Banking, my husband Jim and I moved to Oregon in 2018 to enjoy the amazing beauty it has to offer. We love to camp and enjoy the outdoors.
After moving to Oregon, my husband thought it would be fun if I had a hobby but my hobby quickly turned into a business that I love! I taught myself how to paint and work with a variety of mediums. My preferred medium is Epoxy Resin and Acrylic paints. I use colored pigments, Alcohol inks and mica powders to get my desired colors as well. My art is 100% original and designed by me. You can now find my artwork and home decor in 2 galleries on the Oregon Coast and 1 wineshop.
I am inspired by the beauty of the Oregon Coast. I design my artwork based on the things that I love, the colors I love and what is there not to love about nature and the beautiful Oregon Coast? I hope you will be inspired through my art and feel like you are at the beach when you see my artwork!
My favorite art to make are my 3D ocean paintings with real Oregon sand, seashells from the Oregon beaches and the official Oregon Gemstone, the
Sunstone. I make everything a little different than everyone else! I like the Mandala and Lotus Flower. The type of art that I do is called Acrylic Pouring and Resin Art. This method consists of using acrylic paints and other colorful pigments to get my desired look without the use of any paint brushes! I use untraditional supplies to create. Heat guns, culinary torches and hair dryers are part of my normal process, to name a few.
